Fizz, Boom, Read!

Posted May 28, 2014

Get ready for an electrifying summer. The 2014 summer library theme, Fizz Boom Read, celebrates all things science. Shorewood Library’s summer activities will have an extra spark of excitement this year. Of course, we want to keep kids’ minds active this summer. We also want them to have fun. The best and easiest way to do both is to put “Shorewood Library” on the top of your summer to-do list.

Our reading programs for tots, preschoolers, readers, and the Teen Reading Challenge run from May 27 through August 16. That means you can sign up now or anytime the library is open.  Kids can keep track of their summer reading activity in special folders. If the joy of reading isn’t incentive enough, we have even more motivation for them to hit the books. Kids who complete their reading folders and bring them into the library by August 16 receive a Congratulations Packet including tickets and coupons to area attractions.

Our young Einsteins can also enjoy Thursday morning storytimes, craft programs, and the popular Terrific Tuesday series which kicks off June 17 with the Magic of Rick Allen. This summer Wednesdays are transformed into Tweensdays featuring Minecraft Meetup, Game Day, and a Spa Science event. Tweensdays start at 1:00 p.m. and are just for kids going into grades 4 through 7.

Teens can “Spark a Reaction” with the Teen Summer Reading Challenge, crafts, summer photo contest, and Random Fandom Fridays.

Our monthly programs won’t take a summer break. Pop In & Play, Lego Club, and Family Fun Craft Nights will be held in June, July, and August. Families can also enjoy a special night of storytelling and nature on Thursday June 19 at 7:00 p.m. New Mexico storyteller Bob Kanegis will present Tales and Trails, Seekers and Dreamers.

Our 16th annual Summer Celebration will be held Thursday July 24 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.. The night may have changed from Wednesday to Thursday but you can still look forward to the free Culver’s sundae bar, music of Frogwater, trolley rides, games, balloons, and more.

We have discovered the formula, Summer Reading + Summer Fun = Shorewood Library. We hope to see a lot of your family this summer.
