Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors by George W. Bush
Featuring sixty-six expressive and vibrant oil paintings, the United States’ 43rd President George W. Bush’s Portraits of Courage honors select men and women who have served in the armed forces since September 11th. Along with each portrait, a personal narrative of the individual’s life is included, detailing their sacrifice and courage as well as visible and invisible injuries that incurred from service. Bush vividly depicts the many challenges veterans face when returning home and relays a strong message of how we can support veterans is this stunning monograph.
In Redeployment, Phil Klay features vivid, fictionalized war stories of soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan- the soldier who had to shoot dogs to stop them from eating corpses; the soldier who had to collect both U.S. and Iraqi remains; and the soldier that taught Iraqis baseball to inspire an Americanized way of life.
