This week, we’ve selected our non-fic picks from the Booked All Winter Adult Reading Program. It’s simple: read a book; submit a short review; and you’re ready to select the prize raffle you’d like to win! The more you read, the more chances you have, and the program runs until March 13th so there’s plenty of time to participate.

Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson
A friend, her husband, and I were talking about Lawson’s writing. Chris said you couldn’t read it in bed or on a plane due to laughing out loud. I said another dangerous place was while eating, and Jon coined the apt term “projectile laughter.” Yes! Be prepared for LOTS of foul language and insight into mental illness from her unique perspective.
So reader be warned: read with caution and be prepared to laugh.

A fascinating, well-documented, and sometimes very funny analysis of how technology has changed romance, dating, marriage, and staying married. Smart phones have created an entire second world with many more options to find one’s soul mate, but also to cheat on that mate and get caught.
It’s okay if you get caught reading this book...

Lords of the Horizons: A History of the Ottoman Empire by Jason Goodwin
In this overview of the Ottoman Empire, the beginning chapters are a little hard to follow, especially if you are not very knowledgeable on the subject. However, the book really gets interesting as the author delves into the social history of the culture at that time.
Sometimes it pays to stick with a book; just think of the things you can learn!
