Thanks to a generous grant from the Friends of the Shorewood Library, we’ve been able to expand our TV series collection! This means that we can continue to purchase TV shows that you already love while adding new titles to our collection. Here’s a short list of titles that have recently hit our shelves:
Based off the 1996 crime thriller Fargo, the television series Fargo takes a more extensive approach to one of America’s dark comedies. As a miniseries, each season of Fargo drills down on a different story or character. For example, in the first season, viewers are introduced to Lorne Molvo, a drifter who has a malevolent influence over insurance salesman Lester Nygaard. Meanwhile, the local police force investigates a series of murders in Bemidji, Minnesota. Written by Noah Hawley and directed by the Coen Brothers, FX’s Fargo captures the tone and feel of its companion film to a "T."
Putting violent and sexy visual twists on George R.R. Martin’s popular A Song of Fire and Ice series, HBO’s Game of Thrones is an epic fantasy of power, intrigue, and action with touches of magic and mythical creatures. Set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, noble families battle for the opportunity to rule from the Iron Throne. With a large cast of characters and twisting plot lines, Game of Thrones is one television’s most popular series, and we have seasons one through five here at the Shorewood Library.
In 1947, Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he became the first African American to play in the big leagues. Not only was Robinson an outstanding Hall of Fame player, he was also a leader and icon in the Civil Rights Movement. For the first time ever, viewers experience an intimate and in-depth portrayal of Robinson’s life in Ken Burns’ PBS two-part documentary, Jackie Robinson. With photographs, film footage, and interviews with Robinson’s family members, Burns illustrates that Robinson is truly an American hero both on and off the baseball field.
