Back-to-School

Posted Aug 19, 2016

Mother Nature may not agree, but summer is winding down. Ready or Not – it’s back to school time. While some kids - and parents - can’t wait for those school bells to ring, others are lamenting the end of the dog days.

Before we say so long to summer, let’s take a look back at Shorewood Library’s Summer 2016. Almost 800 kids got on their mark, got set, and read during this year’s sports themed summer reading program. Add in our teens and the number jumps to over a thousand readers. Nearly half made it to the finish line and earned their reward packets. Those eager readers also checked out about 30,000 items from the Children’s Collection from June through August. Finally, more than 2,300 people attend our children’s/family programs.

Keeping those young brains active all summer will definitely make for a smoother transition to the classroom. If your kids still need a little help getting in the back-to-school mindset, we have plenty of books to rev up some school excitement . Check out our Back “2” School – Books “4” You display.
