Author Visit: Jeannee Sacken

Tuesday, March 23

7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Virtual via Zoom

Meet Milwaukee author and photojournalist Jeannee Sacken! Jeannee will discuss her new book, Behind the Lens, in conversation with fellow author Rochelle Melander.

ABOUT BEHIND THE LENS

Seasoned photojournalist Annie Hawkins Green barely survives the Taliban ambush that leaves her military escort dead and a young village girl dying in her arms. Since then, she has managed to suppress her memories of that brutal and tragic day—until years later she returns to Afghanistan to teach a photography workshop at the school for girls run by her expat best friend. As the Taliban regain prominence in the once peaceful Panjshir Valley, Annie’s nightmares come roaring back with a vengeance.

As Annie struggles with PTSD, more trouble brews. Her friend’s teenage daughter is sneaking away at night to meet up with her shadowy boyfriend. When Annie finally gets her to open up, the truth is devastating. Meanwhile, her own daughter is waging war with her father and stepmother back home, feeding Annie’s underlying guilt as a parent who regularly abandons her child in favor of her career. Complicating things even more is Annie’s trust issues with the complicated man who rescued her years ago and who’s trying to protect her now.

This event is co-sponsored with Boswell Book Company. It will be held virtually via Zoom.
