Michelangelo: The Agony and Ecstasy of the Divine One
Monday, March 2
6:00 pm
Location: Shorewood Village Center
The draftsman, designer, and painter of the Vatican's Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo Buonarroti spoke of the image released from the stone by the hand of the creator, "breaking the marble spell." He was known by his contemporaries as Il Divino (The Divine One) due to his powerful imagery and dazzling technical virtuosity, transporting viewers of his art.
This lecture from the Cornerstone History Symposium will study the "Divine Spark" of "The Creation of Adam," and we will study the absolute perfection of the human form in "David", where brain and hand unite, and we will be left to wonder at the capturing of the unbearable agony along with the fullest ecstasies.

Professor Karri L. Fritz-Klaus has worked within the Smithsonian Institution and the Museum of African Art. She is a strong believer in the enrichment of our lives through exposure to the arts, history, and literature. In pursuit of those passions, Karri has been lecturing on various artists and artistic movements for several years, offering both symposiums as well as individual topics of interest. Like the culture of art, Karri's offerings are ever-growing.
