Our Great Lakes in the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities

Thursday, September 3

6:00 pm

Location: Shorewood Village Center

Just 3% of the water on earth is freshwater, and the Great Lakes have 20% of that supply. Two million people worldwide today face some sort of water-supply shortages, and 5 million die from water-borne diseases. What are the specific stressors that face our Great Lakes today, and what are we doing about it?

Anne Moser will introduce current the science and the issues facing our precious resource.

Anne Moser has been senior special librarian and education coordinator for Wisconsin Sea Grant since 2008 where she manages the print and digital collections of the Wisconsin Water Library at UW-Madison and specializes in bringing Great Lakes literacy to young learners through her library story time programs. She has led several projects in support of Wisconsin Sea Grant’s goal of intersecting the arts, sciences and humanities to achieve a science-informed society. As education coordinator, she coordinates professional learning experiences for formal and non-formal educators, including shipboard experiences and virtual and in-person workshops.
