How and Why We Age: What is Happening on the Inside?

Aging has fascinated scientists for centuries, but there is still no definitive understanding of what drives the process. Theories have come and gone, leaving behind clues as to how and why we age. In the presentation, we will explore those clues and piece together a picture. There will be no secret tips on suppressing aging, but an opportunity to learn about what is happening at the cellular level.

Scott Gronert has a BS in Chemistry from the California State University at Long Beach and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. He served on the Chemistry faculty at San Franciso State University and Virginia Commonwealth University before moving to UW – Milwaukee, where he recently retired as the Dean of the College of Letters and Science. His work has led to nearly 150 research publications in the areas of organic chemistry and aging, and his honors include a Fulbright Scholarship and the Distinguished Research Award from the Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society. He is a Shorewood resident and a Trustee of the Shorewood Public Library.
