How to Make a List in CountyCat

Posted Apr 4, 2020

In preparation for the COVID-19 pandemic and the Shorewood Public Library closing, I made sure to stock up on a lot of books.  And for me "a lot of books" is ten.  I'm a slow reader, and because I am surrounded by stacks of books all the time at work, I try to keep my checkouts within reason.  So, I took home ten well-selected books including a variety of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and audiobooks.

Well, I already finished five of them.  Thankfully, I have a small stack of non-library books at home that I can resort to, but I am still coming across titles and authors that I want to read.  I want to request them on CountyCat, but I can't.

This is where the CountyCat list feature really helps.  I am making lists for fiction, non-fiction, audiobooks, and movies.  This way, when the library reopens, I can simply click "Request" and items will be put on hold for me, or I can be added to the holds list.  It's a great feature to keep track of all those books you want to read, and you can organize it any way you want.

Here's how to create lists in CountyCat:

  • Log in into your account with your library card number/username and PIN
  • Search for the item you are looking for and click on the item's record
  • Look for Additional actions to the right of the bibliographic information
  • Click on the Add to cart basket icon
  • Add as many items to your cart as you would like

At the top of the page, near your name, you'll see My Book Cart along with the number of items you have in your cart.  Click on that link.

  • Click on Save to list
  • Name your list on the pop up window that appears and add a description if you'd like
  • Click Create

Congratulations - now you have a list!  And, you can create as many as you'd like.  To check your list(s), simply click on your name on the right hand corner of the CountyCat page and then click on My Lists.

CountyCat lists are a great way to keep track of all those titles you're eventually going to want to check out from the library.  Having a wide variety to choose from ensures that there's something on there for whatever reading mood you're in.

If you're curious about titles I have on my lists, feel free to reach out to me.
